- How can I see newspapers on my iPhone or iPad?

Most of the historic newspapers on DigitalNC are published as PDF files, which do not display automatically on the iPhone or iPad. To view or save these, tap on the “Download” button in the upper right corner of the screen.
This will open the newspaper in a new window. Downloading may take a little while depending on the size of the issue and what kind of connection you’re on. Once the download is complete, you can read the issue in your browser or save it to other reading apps you may have on your device. Pinch in or out to zoom.
When I search for keywords, I get a lot of hits but can’t tell where they are on the page. How can I see keyword highlighting?
We publish many items as PDF files, however keyword highlighting may not show up in some browsers. Please see the “Help With PDF Documents” for more information.
In the item description below the viewing window, look for the terms that are followed by an arrow icon — these will take you back to the appropriate collection or exhibit home pages. Here’s an example from an issue of the Fayetteville Observer from 1860:
