As three of the candidates for the Democratic party nomination for Governor ramp up their campaigns, I decided to check the North Carolina College and University Yearbooks collection to see if I could find photos from their college days.
Forty-seven yearbooks from Methodist University are now available online at DigitalNC.org. The yearbooks span from 1964, four years after the institution was formed, to 2010. Methodist University also contributed three yearbooks from the now-defunct Carolina College, which was located in Maxton, N.C. Interestingly, the North Carolina College and University Yearbooks digital collection also contains fifty-four yearbooks and course catalogs from another defunct school that was once located in Maxton, Presbyterian Junior College.

In 1992, Elizabeth City State University basketball coach Bobby Vaughan was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Under Vaughan’s leadership, the basketball team won five CIAA Divisional Championships and two CIAA tournaments. Happy birthday to Saint Augustine’s College (now Saint Augustine’s University) in Raleigh, which is celebrating the 145th anniversary of its founding with full program of Founder’s Week activities.
Twenty-seven student yearbooks, dating from 1968 to 1994, from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College are now available online at DigitalNC.org. In addition to the yearbooks, a collection of newspaper clippings documenting the history of the college are also now online. You can learn more about Rowan-Cabarrus Community College on their website.
Eight yearbooks and ten scrapbooks from Southeastern Community College are now available on DigitalNC.org. The scrapbooks, dating from 1963 to 1979, document this history of the community college from the time of the initial groundbreaking, at which then-governor Dan K. Moore was a guest speaker.
Student yearbooks from Montreat College are now available online at DigitalNC.org. There are sixty-seven volumes, dating from 1925 to 1994, when the school stopped publishing a yearbook.
