We’ve recently passed a big milestone with the North Carolina College and University Yearbooks project: there are now more than a half million yearbook pages available on the site. As of this writing, there are 562,761 pages, with more being added on a regular basis.

We’ve worked with 44 different schools and have digitized a total of 2,922 volumes. There aren’t too many schools left that we haven’t worked with, so I don’t think we’ll get over a million pages, but three-quarters of a million is a distant possibility.

If you are a staff member, student, or graduate of a North Carolina college, university, or community college, and your school’s yearbooks have not been digitized by the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, get in touch with us soon and we can talk about how to participate.

Twenty-three volumes of “The Bridge,” Cleveland Community College’s student yearbook, are now available at DigitalNC.org. The yearbooks span from 1969-1991.

Twenty-nine yearbooks and one history of the school from Central Carolina Community College are now available online. Among many other courses of study the school offers a veterinary medical technology program, which frankly have some of the best pictures of any of the yearbooks in the North Carolina College and University Yearbooks digital collection. In addition to the typical student portraits, these volumes also honor the non-human affiliates of the program, including many beloved cats and dogs, horses, cows and even a turtle or two. Student yearbooks from North Carolina Wesleyan College are now available on DigitalNC. Forty-three volumes of The Dissenter, from 1962 to 2006, are now accessible through the North Carolina College and University Yearbooks collection.

Student yearbooks from Queens University of Charlotte are now available on DigitalNC. The yearbooks span 70 years of Queens history, from 1937 to 2007.

Student yearbooks from Mars Hill College (now Mars Hill University) are now available on DigitalNC. Eighty volumes of The Laurel, ranging in date from 1917 to 2008, can be searched and browsed online.

First year students moving into Gardner-Webb University in 1996 got a little help moving into their dorms from upperclassmen. In addition to standard dorm essentials, in 1996, students brought in box televisions and pop culture decorations, such as this cartoon Garfield the Cat trashcan.

Student yearbooks from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine are now available on DigitalNC. The site contains 72 volumes, ranging back as far as 1943, from the medical school, formerly known as the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. The yearbooks also include nursing students from the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing.

The yearbooks are from the collection of the Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives at the Coy C. Carpenter Library at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.
